who we are
When I was 15 years old, I volunteered to assist in a youth program for 12 and 13 year olds in Waterloo, Ontario. Since then, over three decades ago, I have always been involved in the lives of adolescents as a keynote speaker, leadership trainer, event and program manager, youth director, college professor, and (most importantly) a father of three amazing children.
My passion is to see adolescents reach their full potential - academically, socially, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Our mission statement says it clearly: Celebrating Adolescent Life exists to assist families celebrate and navigate their children's transition into early adolescence through a coming-of-age ceremony supported by practical resources.
Our coming of age ceremony is a unique celebration that assists adolescents in preparing for adulthood. The coming of age ceremony is a rite of passage that includes positive affirming adult voices at this critical stage in a child's life. Our recommended resource list including the book "Thirteenity" can assist pre-adolescent children in understanding and embracing their development.
Almost every culture and country in the world has a milestone marker that identifies when a child's social status changes so that they can now be treated as a young adult. Not so in North America. We believe that young people need and actually desire the affirming voices of their "tribe" as they enter the early adolescent stage of their development.
As a team of professional Celebrants across Ontario, we can support families by providing a meaningful, memorable, and fun ceremony for your child. Celebrating Adolescent Life is a member of Celebrating Life (www.celebratinglife.ca) a registered not for profit charity (Canada).
