Steps to prepare for a coming-of-age ceremony

1. Talk to your child and decide if they wish to have this ceremony as part of their 13th or 16th birthday celebration. Explain what a coming of age ceremony is and what it could look like for them.

2. Contact Martti Pajunen at Celebrating Life (martti@celebratinglife.ca) to check our availability to provide a Celebrant for your ceremony. We would need to know the date, time and location of your ceremony and if you have a preference for a male or female Celebrant (or if there is no preference). You may book online as well.

3. The Celebrant will meet with the parents and child for an initial ceremony planning consultation where we will discuss all the elements of the ceremony and seek input to make the event unique and fun. If you choose to book our services, a contract will be signed to confirm all details of the ceremony.

4. The Celebrant will craft the ceremony with the input provided by the family. A second telephone consultation one week before the ceremony will confirm any final details. The family will receive an emailed outline of the ceremony.

5. The Celebrant will arrive 20 minutes before the ceremony and speak with each participant to ensure everyone knows their responsibility. Following the ceremony, the Celebrant will stay briefly to thank the participants or have photos taken; there is no expectation to invite the Celebrant to stay for a meal or reception time.
